Dewitt T. Hicks, Jr. is a founding Partner Attorney with Hicks and Smith, PLLC, begun in 2007. Prior to its formation, Mr. Hicks was a founding partner of Gholson, Hicks and Nichols until its dissolution in 2007.
Mr. Hicks is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a B.S. degree in 1954 with highest honors.
He proudly served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force with the Strategic Air Command. He held a top secret clearance.
Mr. Hicks is a 1959 graduate of the University of Mississippi Law School where he was Editor in Chief of the Mississippi Law Journal. He served as President of the University of Mississippi Law School.
Mr. Hicks has been a leader in the community by serving as President of the Mississippi Bar Foundation, Mississippi Municipal Attorney Association President, Municipal Court Judge, and the City of Columbus Attorney for six administrations.
He is past Chairman of the Board of Palmer Home where he has served as a Board Member for 43 years. He is past President of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Lowndes Economic Development Authority (CLEDA). He is a member of and served as President of the Kiwanis Club in Columbus and The United Way. He has served as President of the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church, as well as Chairman of the Board of Trust Mr. Hicks has received an AV Rating by his peers through the Martindale Hubbell Peer Review, the highest rating attainable. The AV Rating represents counsel with superior ethics, as well as the desired level of professional experience.
